Burdekin Shire Council is seeking a Leading Hand – Construction – Works to assist the Works Supervisor with the construction of new Council works, private and Main Roads works, maintenance of existing services and structures in connection with roads and footpaths, kerbing and channelling, stormwater drainage, bitumen reseals, boat ramps and other functions of Council, which require the allocation and organisation of plant and labour.
The Position
Reporting to the Works Overseer, the key responsibilities include:
Guide, assist and give directions to team members in on-site construction and maintenance activities including quality control.Ensure employees in the team abide by Council’s Code of Conduct and all other Council policies.Undertake significant components of the Department’s works programme, utilising the knowledge, skills and training described below.Undertake all work as detailed in the relevant work quality plans and work procedures ensuring compliance with all Acts, Regulations and Codes of Practice including Main Road Signage, Electrical Safety and the like.Coordinate private contracted plant and services as required on the job site.Liaise with and coordinate contractors on the job site.The Person
The successful applicant will possess the following attributes at a minimum:
General Construction Induction (White or Blue Card).Current Class “MR” (Medium Rigid) driver’s licence.Demonstrated experience in new road construction, drainage works, concreting, Main Roads, and Council maintenance operations, including reading job plans, specifications and reinforcing schedules for work sites.Demonstrated experience in job set-out and level control using the following equipment – Dumpy Level, Theodolite, Laser level and Total Station.Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in a leadership role and manage time, set priorities and plan works of a work crew.Applicants should familiarise themselves with the entire position description.
The gross fortnightly wage for this position ranges from $2,331.50 to $2,488.59 with the commencing wage dependent upon the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
