Ballarat (City) 28 Aug 2019

The City of Ballarat is seeking Expressions of Interest from community groups, individuals and businesses to help deliver a vibrant and engaging precinct for the 2020 Ballarat Begonia Festival, with entertainment, food and family fun all on the program.

One of the largest and most popular regional events, the award-winning three-day Begonia Festival over the Victorian Labour Day long weekend attracts more than 60,000 people annually to the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.

The City is keen to capitalise on the success of previous festivals with the inclusion of up-beat entertainment that appeals to large crowds and families and are therefore seeking an Entertainment Co-ordinator to help cater to the festival’s growing and diverse crowds.

Creative input is being sought for one of the many children’s activities, the Garden Trail that allows visitors to explore the gardens while experiencing the whole festival footprint.

The City is also offering an opportunity for up to five businesses to jointly operate the Begonia Bar, a beverage garden area within the Festival grounds, as well as the popular Begonia Courtyard, a Food & Beverage area from within the Robert Clark Centre Courtyard.

The Ballarat Begonia Festival is changing and evolving every year, and the City is open to any brilliant ideas that will value add to its visitor experience.

Importantly, the 2020 Festival will potentially provide opportunities for regional businesses to work together to activate the Begonia Courtyard to showcase local entertainment, food and wine.

Applications for the iconic Begonia Parade are also open in the categories of Mayor’s Choice Award, Best Schools Entry, Best Community Entry, Best Business Entry and Best Musical Entry. One of few community parades still running, the 2020 Power FM Begonia Parade will be broadcast live by Power FM and is presented free by the City of Ballarat.
