Lane widening for motorists and cyclists, a new footpath, school crossing and pedestrian refuge, and upgrades to lighting are part of an enhancement planned for Mill Road in Edmonton.
Council endorsed the $1.99 million project, which will address safety and improve traffic flows is for the section of Mill Road between the Mill Road/Ravizza Drive/Mount Peter Road and the Mill Road/Wiseman Road roundabouts, which is currently a sub-arterial, two-lane road.
Key elements of the upgrade include:
Road widening to provide 3.5m traffic lanes and 1.5m on-road bicycle lanesStreet lighting upgradesConstruction of a 2m wide concrete footpath on the northern side of the roadReplacement and formalisation of the existing bus stopsConstruction of a new pedestrian refuge crossing just east of Suhle StreetConstruction of a new children’s crossing outside Hambledon State SchoolWorks are expected to start in October.
Long term planning has identified the need for Mill Road to be upgraded to a four-lane, median divided road, reflected in Council’s CairnsPlan 2016 Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP), with the long term upgrade proposed for 2031.
