For 54 years, Council’s Meals on Wheels team has been providing their clients with nourishing meals. But just as important is the daily dose of companionship and human connection the volunteers bring to each visit.
Today is National Meals on Wheels Day and it’s a great opportunity to celebrate such a vital local service. Our team delivers around 25,000 meals each year to older people, people with a disability and their carers from Manly to Dee Why.
The service also provides clients with an extra opportunity to get out of the house and socialise over a three-course meal each week.
Charles, 93 has been attending the Tuesday lunches at St Matthews Church for six years.
“It’s a very good lunch but the best part about it is meeting people and socialising.
“Each week you look forward to seeing your friends and catching up. If someone misses a lunch we’re all wondering ‘Where’s Dan this week?’ so it’s a good way to check in on everyone.”
“Plus the soups are always out of this world.”
Clients can ‘self-refer’ to Meals on Wheels - or be referred by a health practitioner, family member or friend.
The Meals on Wheels service can deliver a great selection of delicious and healthy hot, chilled and frozen meals to your door, Monday to Friday, as a one-off or as a regular delivery. Soups, sandwiches and salads are also available.
Three-course lunches are held from 11.30am at:
