WENDY TUCKERMAN: New staff accommodation for Yass Hospital

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman has unveiled the new staff accommodation at Yass Hospital as part of the $8 million Yass Hospital Redevelopment.

The three self-contained one-bedroom units will benefit medical, nursing and allied health staff and students attending the hospital.

Mrs Tuckerman said the new accommodation is a significant upgrade for on-call overnight staff.

“This new accommodation will undoubtedly help the appeal of Yass Hospital in terms of attracting and retaining medical, nursing and allied health staff.

Staff have begun to view the new accommodation with bookings to be taken in the coming weeks, well ahead of completion of the hospital redevelopment in late 2020.

The units each have a kitchen, laundry and ensuite bathroom. One of the units features accessible featuring lowered benchtops, railings and bathroom fixtures.

“I am delighted to hear that Richard Crookes Constructions has not only delivered the new staff accommodation project smoothly but also supported our local businesses in purchasing all the furniture and appliances in Yass,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

The Yass Hospital Redevelopment is part of the $304 million statewide program of works to upgrade existing facilities in rural and remote areas.

Richard Crookes Constructions was awarded the main works contract for the Yass Hospital Redevelopment project in January, with works commencing in February 2019.

The redevelopment will include ongoing 24-hour emergency department with an additional treatment bay and dedicated ambulance entry, an increase in inpatient beds from 10 to 12, improved community and allied health facilities, ongoing access to X-ray services and new staff accommodation.
