We all know someone who inspires us with the energy they put into helping others and making a stronger community.
Why not give them the credit they deserve and nominate them for a 2020 Corangamite Shire Australia Day Award?
Nominations for the Corangamite Shire Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year open on Monday September 2.
The awards will be presented at the Shire’s Australia Day Celebrations at the Derrinalllum Community Hall from 10 am on Sunday 26 January 2020.
Mayor Neil Trotter encouraged Corangamite Shire residents to nominate inspirational people in their community for Australia Day awards.
“These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals and groups in our community,” Cr Trotter said.
“Whether they’re volunteering with community groups or working in a career that benefits the people of the Shire, these awards give us the chance to say, ‘thank you’.
“There are a lot of quiet achievers whose efforts touch our lives, nurturing our young people, helping the sick and elderly, or running the clubs and organisations that bring us together as a community.
“This is your opportunity to recognise the efforts of someone who has contributed to your community and hold them up as an inspiration to other people to get involved.”
Nominations close on Monday 7 October. Forms will be available here or from the Civic Centre.
Council is yet to be advised of an Australia Day Ambassador for next year’s Australia Day Celebrations at Derrinallum Community Hall on Thursday 26 January 2020.
