As part of its commitment to raising awareness of sustainability and promoting the natural environment, Council has several events organised throughout September.
Biodiversity Show and TellHave you heard of a Sugar Glider? Or seen an Owl? Children are invited to celebrate Biodiversity Month with two Biodiversity Show and Tell talks to be held next month.
The free talks, designed to suit five to 10 year olds, will be from 4pm to 5pm on Wednesday 4 September at Woodend Library, and Thursday 12 September at Gisborne Library. Come along to see the naturalist display and hear the stories behind each item.
Learn all about Black GumsCelebrate National Threatened Species Day with a walk through one of Council’s newest conservation reserves – Browning Street Reserve in Woodend. Participants will learn how to identify the nationally threatened Black Gum in the reserve and the significance of the species in the local environment.
The walk will be from 2pm to 3pm, on Saturday 7 September. Participants can meet at the Browning Street Reserve and enter via Layde Place, Woodend.
Get on the bus for sustainable housesResidents in the Macedon Ranges have the opportunity to learn about sustainable house design with a special bus tour. The tour, from 9.30am to 1pm, on Sunday 15 September will visit innovative sustainable houses in the region. The bus leaves from Woodend Library car park, Forest Street. Due to limited availability, this tour is for Macedon Ranges residents only.
Bushwalkers now have a guide to floraThe long awaited Flora of the Macedon Ranges guide will be launched on Sunday 29 September 2019.
The launch, from 2pm to 3.30pm, will be celebrated with a walk along Five Mile Creek and Woodend Grassland, using the new guide to identify the plants along the way. Participants can meet at Lake Earnshaw, at the top of Jeffreys Street in Woodend, for drinks before the walk.
