Recognising the community spirit and pride in our young people

At Tuesday night’s Council Meeting, Councillors voted to establish the Mayor’s Community Spirit Award. This award will recognise young people who have made selfless contributions to their local community or the City as a whole.

Each school will choose one winner from their Year 12 students, who will be presented a certificate and a $300 cash prize by Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone at the schools’ end of year assemblies or awards nights.

Mayor Carbone said Council has a long history of recognising and celebrating those in our community who are quick to offer a helping hand, serve their City with great pride and strive to make Fairfield City an even better place to work, live and raise a family.

“Volunteering is the lifeblood of successful and happy communities. Without our volunteers, we simply couldn’t run all the wonderful events and programs that make Fairfield City such a great place,” Mayor Carbone said.

“We want to recognise such sacrifice and community spirit at an early age, setting up today’s young people for a lifetime of valuable and rewarding service.

“This award will be annual and reoccurring commendation to recognise and encourage good works in our community by our City’s youth. I look forward to meeting our young volunteers and learning all about the amazing work that they do.”

Winning students can be either consistent or outstanding in their displays of kindness and/or service. They can be in service of the school, the Fairfield City community or a local charity. The duration, scale and level of impact of the service will all be taken into consideration when choosing the winners.

Mayor Carbone will be in contact with local schools in the coming weeks to formally invite them to be a part of this award.
