Central Highlands Regional Council is advising all residents north of the Gregory Highway at Emerald to safeguard themselves and their properties during a routine fuel reduction burn planned for Saturday 31 August 2019.
The targeted area is considered to be high risk by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) for the upcoming summer fire season.
The hazard reduction burn will be supported by the local urban and rural fire units, QFES staff, SES volunteers, Sunwater and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
It is dependent on weather conditions on the day, which may lead to a postponement if not suitable.
Residents should expect smoke and ash in the area, although every attempt will be made to keep this to a minimum.
The area to be burnt is the western side of the Gregory Highway south of Wills Road and on the eastern side of the highway north of Emerald Downs Road for approximately two kilometres.
