Council Report – August 27

Application for Development Approval –Brewery – Distillery – Harvey Cheese Council considered an application for Lot 36 South Western Highway, Wokalup – Harvey Cheese to build a distillery on site. The application proposes to develop a distillery operation within a portion of the existing Harvey Cheese building. The application will be advertised for public comment.

Renewable Energy Facility – Benger Council considered an application for a Renewable Energy Facility located in Benger in the intensive farming zone and public advertising will now commence. Given the scale of the proposal, after the advertising period, a further report will be brought to council. The application proposes a Renewable Energy Facility operating approximately 265,200 solar PV panels on a single-axis tracking system.

Supply and Delivery of one Road Sweeper At its meeting held on 31 October, 2018 Council considered a report on the benefits of the Shire owning and operating a road sweeper. Funds were subsequently included in the 2019/20 Budget and tenders for the supply of a truck-mounted road sweeper were advertised in July 2019. At its meeting held on 27 August, 2019 Council accepted a tender for the new item of plant which will now be fabricated and delivered to the Shire in approximately six months’ time.

Design and Construct a New Play Area at Ridley Place Foreshore Reserve, Australind Council accepted the tender to design and construct a new play area at Ridley Place Foreshore Reserve. This playground development is part of the Ridley Place Foreshore Master Plan which includes a new kiosk, toilet and restaurant facility. Chief Executive Officer Annie Riordan said the playground will replace the existing playground at the foreshore to provide an exciting and unique experience for children between the ages of 6 and 14 years old. Elements of the playground include an innovative nature play space, an iconic feature factored into the design and will take advantage of the existing trees and landscape. “The iconic play element will comprise a large crab-like structure,” Ms Riordan said. “There will be a flying fox as well as a number of opportunities for creative play, consideration and inclusion of indigenous heritage and the natural environment in the design. “The playground will also include accessible play components for children with disabilities.” The playground is expected to start construction in the coming months and be completed by late January.
