Shelly Beach is moving into the future with a trial of new high-tech ‘smart bins’.
The new solar powered bins compact waste periodically reducing the number of times the bins need to be emptied.
If the trial is successful, Council hopes to roll out the smart bins to other locations across the Northern Beaches. Shelly Beach was selected for the trial as it is such a popular spot for both locals and visitors alike.
The smart bins are a trial of the Smart Beaches Project which use innovative technology to increase safety as well as improve public amenities at beaches.
The project has been part funded by the Federal Government’s Smart Cities and Suburbs Program and is a partnership with Lake Macquarie City Council and the University of Technology, Sydney.
