After a few construction delays, the pedestrian and cyclist bridge over Deep Creek as part of stage two of the River to Rail Trail has today been lowered into position.
Stage two of the River to Rail Trail, which was expected to open to the public in June 2019, has been delayed due to geotechnical investigations with the bridge’s footings.
Councillor Mark McDonald said that despite the delays in the completion of stage two of the River to Rail Trail, it is expected that the full trail project will be delivered on time. “While we were waiting on the issues with the bridge to be resolved, council crews progressed on to stage three works. “This means that a large part of stage three has already been completed and we expect both stages two and three will be open to the public by the end of October,” said Councillor McDonald.
The River to Rail Trail is planned to form part of a larger network of trails and, once complete, users will have the opportunity to walk or cycle the nine kilometre route from Albert Park to the Railway Station on Tozer Street and back into the Gympie Town Centre, forming a connected recreation loop.
The River to Rail Trail is a joint initiative of Gympie Regional Council and the Queensland Government.
