The Mary Valley Skate Park will celebrate its official opening on Saturday 31 August 2019, 2.00pm to 4.30pm at the Bert Smith Memorial Park, Yabba Creek Road, Imbil.
The $300,000 project was fully funded by the Queensland State Government’s Works for Queensland program, which supports regional council’s to undertake job-creating maintenance and minor infrastructure projects. The skate park was the result of public consultations with local residents as well as students from the Mary Valley State College.
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe congratulated Gympie Regional Council on the skate park’s opening. “This is a fantastic recreational facility and is exactly the type of project the Palaszczuk Government’s $600 million, job-creating Works for Queensland program is designed to help councils deliver for our communities,” Mr Hinchliffe said. “Gympie has benefitted enormously through this program, receiving more than $18.1 million, going to 34 projects.
“On top of that, council reports 134 jobs have been created or supported through the program so far, and estimates another 345 jobs will be created or supported by June 2021.” The official opening will include a Welcome to Country by Uncle Tais, a Kabi Kabi traditional owner, a speech by the Mary Valley State College Student Representatives and official ribbon cutting by Mayor Mick Curran.
The event will also include a variety of activities by Chiggy’s Skateboarding including demos, free skate clinics and product giveaways. Skateboards and helmets available for use on the day. Food and drinks will be available from the Mary Valley State College P&C.
