Child Protection Week 2019

Child Protection Week is a national campaign driven by the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.

In 2019 the campaign will be held from Sunday 1 September to Saturday 7 September and it aims to raise awareness that everyone has a role to play in protecting children from harm.

The City’s free protective behaviours workshop for parents and carers will take place at Quest Rockingham from 5.30pm – 7.30pm.

The event will be delivered by the Kwinana Early Years’ Service (KEYS) and will equip parents to support their children to develop personal safety skills and techniques that will help protect them in times of adversity.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said building stronger communities was vital to creating safer environments for children.

“The City has supported Child Protection Week for the past four years and is proud to be supporting it again in 2019,” Mayor Sammels said.   

“The protection and safety of children is a crucial issue in any community and events like the protective behaviours workshop for parents and carers play an important role in preventing child abuse.

 “This Child Protection Week the City would also like to recognise the variety of community support services in Rockingham which provide ongoing care, support and therapy to local families and children.”
