Every October, Walk to School month encourages kids and families to get active on the trip to and from school to help build healthy habits for life. This year, Council is working with local primary schools to deliver a range of activities encouraging more families to walk, ride or scoot to school this October thanks to funding of 15,000 from VicHealth.
Participating schools have gathered together to discuss on-going active travel and what it means to their local community. Schools have been rewarded for participating with a contribution to incursions, a healthy breakfast and prizes. Including a scooter and helmet to the value of $200.
If your school hasn’t participated, not to worry. You can still enter individually and win prizes. Jump onto the Walk to School website and find out how.
Last year more than 140,000 kids from over 750 schools across Victoria took part in Walk to School and walked the equivalent of two return trips to the moon. Helping our kids to get active is so important for their health and wellbeing. Walk to school month is a fun and easy way for Victorian primary school kids to build healthy habits for life.
