September 2-6 is Women’s Health Week and a great opportunity to shine a light on how women can improve their health and fitness.
However, trainers at East Gippsland Shire Council’s Lakes Entrance Aquadome and Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre believe the fun shouldn’t be for just one week.
Aquadome Coordinator Kelly Smart said making health and fitness part of your routine can be a great way to socialise.
“Our group fitness classes are a great way to socialise while getting fit,” Kelly said.
“Our trainers are all fully qualified and registered with Fitness Australia. They can modify all exercises in classes to suit the personal fitness levels of participants and enjoy creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere for everyone.
“The feedback we receive from participants in our classes is great and it’s so pleasing to see the confidence and satisfaction local women have when their strength and fitness improves through regular classes in what can be a very social environment.”
Debbie Broom has been attending classes for 20 years and joins in her class to maintain and improve her fitness.
“I find the class and people always have a positive attitude,” Debbie said.
Catherine Briggs attends the class to build her bone density and general health, while Barb Moore enjoys the fitness and socialisation aspects of the classes at the Aquadome.
Georgia Mills, who returned to the class to lose the baby weight after having twins, want to be “a good example for my children”.
The Aquadome’s Kelly Smart said strength training has great general health benefits, especially as fitness improves.
“Other benefits of regular exercise include maintaining muscle tissue, improving mobility and balance, improved posture, and increasing bone density and strength which leads to a reduced risk of osteoporosis and injury.”
“Exercise can also improve your sense of wellbeing, so consider making time for yourself and enjoying a group class or training session. Add in a regular walk or run, or maybe a game of sport, and there will be not stopping you!”
Under the helpful guidance and encouragement of trainer Di Wisby (pictured top), Catherine Briggs, Barb Moore, Debbie Broom and Georgia Mills love the benefits classes at the Lakes Entrance Aquadome provide. Those benefits include strength and fitness, socialisation and overall improved general health.
