With Council continuing to review the services provided to the community, improvements are in the process of implementation relating to the ongoing cleaning of footpaths in commercial areas.

“I note that news regarding Council’s new footpath sweeper has hit social media and would like to update to community on Council’s intent behind this purchase,” said Mayor Thompson. “Council continues to investigate every possible avenue for improving the level of service provided to the community. One of those services is the ongoing cleaning of the footpaths within the Lithgow CBD.”

“Recently, Council’s administration has made changes to existing positions and considered all avenues for alternative equipment in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of this service,” explained Mayor Thompson. “This process has resulted in Council purchasing a new sweeper, truck and trailer that have been purpose built and designed for the task at hand. The sweeper will broom only while the truck will have its own pressure hose system and combined with the trailer, will allow prompt responses to all proactive and reactive cleaning requirements. Additionally, the redevelopment of this service along with better equipment will allow the service to be expanded from Lithgow only to include CBD precinct cleaning services to both Wallerawang and Portland.”

“The elected Council and administration are very aware of the importance of this service to our very proud community. It is believed that the more efficient and effective delivery of this service will improve community and tourist perceptions of our towns and villages,” said Mayor Thompson. “Council’s Director Infrastructure Services advises that with the new equipment still being commissioned and tested, the community can expect this changes to be implemented in the coming weeks. However, Council will continue to monitor this service, as well as many others, to ensure it continuously improves within its means and existing resources.”
