North Queensland First leader Jason Costigan is set to tour communities in the state's North West, just days after announcing the formation of a new political party. Mr Costigan first travelled to Mount Isa in 1987 whilst en-route to the Northern Territory as a 16-year-old schoolboy, but on this trip touring the region and visiting Boulia, Dajarra, Cloncurry, Kynuna, Julia Creek, Richmond and Hughenden. "As the leader of North Queensland First, it is my job to listen to the concerns of everyday North Queenslanders wherever they live and that includes the North West," Mr Costigan said. "I've been to most of these places before so I know a few of the personalities in the various communities and also what makes them tick. "I actually have fond memories of my past trips to Mount Isa, coming there first on the Inlander when I was a teenager and subsequently coming out for Foley Shield, the North Queensland Games, the iconic Mount Isa Rodeo and even hosting special Indigenous events on behalf of the Former Origin Greats." Mr Costigan said he was no stranger to North West Queensland. "I've also had the privilege of attending the Boulia Camel Races and the Richmond Field Days when I previously served as the Shadow Assistant Minister to the Leader of the Opposition on matters relating to North Queensland," he said. "That said, I look forward to hearing from locals about the issues affecting them, so we at North Queensland First can develop policy for the betterment of those communities." Mr Costigan will hold a series of informal meet-and-greets in local pubs and encouraged residents to say hello as he undertakes his first road trip as the leader of NQ First. "I'll be meeting with local government representatives and key stakeholders, but I want to hear from everyday people in the North West, just days after unveiling NQ First before Regional Parliament finally returned to Townsville," he said.
