Nominate for Council

The Shire of Capel will hold a postal vote election for the Local Government Election to be held Saturday 19 October. The Shire of Capel has five councillor vacancies and nominations are now open, closing 4pm Thursday 12 September.

The Shire of Capel hosted an information session Wednesday 4 September with six potential candidates attending.

An overview of the legislative framework; expectations of a councillor; the possible time commitment involved and the requirements to attend meetings and complete annual financial returns were discussed. There was also an overview of the election process, qualification and disqualification for the office of councillor and potential electoral offences to be avoided.

Finally, the Returning Officer was introduced and questions were invited from those in attendance.  All candidates were encouraged to visit the shire website for key information about the local government, including election information.

Nominations are now open until 4pm Thursday 12 September. The ballot order draw will occur immediately after the close of nominations.
