Held twice previously in 2016 and 2017, the Rockingham Beach Cup is a two day festival of events that culminates in six horse races along the Rockingham Beach Foreshore.
With no other event like it in Western Australia, the Rockingham Beach Cup draws thousands of visitors to the area. In 2017 about 30,000 people attended the event, with economic modelling showing the event contributed approximately $1 million to the Rockingham economy.
Mayor Barry Sammels said the City was delighted to be able to welcome the return of the Rockingham Beach Cup in 2019.
“The Rockingham Beach Cup is an iconic event that plays an important role in boosting the local economy and also the profile of our City,” Mayor Sammels said.
“Attracting and retaining iconic events like the Rockingham Beach Cup is a key part of the City’s Tourist Destination Strategy, so naturally Council was keen to support Palm Beach Rotary Club and their efforts to host the event.
“With the Rockingham Beach Foreshore Revitalisation set to be finished very soon, we can expect to see a world class event hosted at a truly stunning foreshore location.”
The City will also be appointing a data analysis company to evaluate the social and economic impact of the 2019 event. The data gained from this analysis will then be used to inform any potential future grant funding decisions.
