The warmer months are about to get a whole lot cooler, with the Werribee Outdoor Pool set to open for an extra two months on both ends of Summer.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said a new trial will see the popular pool in the Chirnside Park precinct opening from 1st of October 2019 until 30th April 2020. It is normally open from November through to the end of March.
“The Werribee Outdoor Pool is a brilliant local facility – one that I frequent through Summer with my son Gus,” Cr Shaw said.
“We conducted a survey, and our valued customers told us loud and clear that they’d like the pool to be open for longer.”
“It’s not only in Summer that the months are warmer, so this trial extension will ensure that our residents can cool down or go for a swim in October and April.”
“It isn’t just about cooling down. Our population is growing rapidly, and there is an increased demand for access to aquatic facilities. We are confident that this will help to alleviate some of the pressure experienced at AquaPulse, shifting residents to this much-loved pool instead.”
Cr Shaw said the extension would also provide the opportunity to deliver youth programs at the pool, especially around school holiday periods.
“This is all about making better use of the assets we have here in Wyndham, and making them work better for our community.”
The trial will be reviewed mid next year to determine if the outcomes have been achieved.
