Dunlop Santas sell to $44,000 with full clearance...

Dunlop Santas have defied seasonal conditions at their annual sale with a top price of $44,000, an average of $9298 and a 100 per cent clearance.

Scott and Rebecca Dunlop's on-property sale at Jingeri, Proston drew more than 100 bidders looking to buy rising two-year-old bulls from 23 sire lines.

Bulls were picked up by buyers from across Queensland locations including Collinsville, the Arcadia Valley, Blackall, the Brisbane Valley and Boulia, with NSW stud breeders taking a particular interest in the upper end

Mr Dunlop said they were exceptionally happy and also humbled by the tremendous amount of support.

"The average is exceptional but probably what's more pleasing is the fact it was 100pc clearance in tough times," he said.

"It just shows the positivity that is out there amongst beef producers.

"We're producing a great product that's going to be keenly sought after and it's looking like we're going to be rewarded for it.

"It's obviously great to see the stud breeders supporting our sale and our genetics... but it's the commercial breeders that are our bread and butter and we particularly value their support more than anything."

Taking the $44,000 top price early in the sale as only the fourth lot offered was 24-month-old Dunlop Tomahawk P1070, a sire the vendors contemplated keeping for themselves, who was secured by Tom and Anna Dunalop of Munnabah Santas, Coolah, NSW over underbidders Scott and Wendy Ferguson, Glen Oaks Santa Gertrudis, Nobby.

A son of Wave Hill Drake from Dunlop G533, Tomahawk weighed 936kg with an verage daily gain of 1.26kg, P8 and rib fat of 18mm and 13 mm and an eye muscle area of 138 sq cm. He had a scrotal circumference of 41cm and a semen morphology of 89pc.

Buyer Tom Dunlop said he first saw Tomahawk at this year's Brisbane Royal Show and was attracted to his depth of body, his type and how he had "just the right amount of muscle".

"We'll single sire him to about 50 females I have picked out for him," he said.

"Him being a horned bull doesn't worry me because they're polled.

"I probably went a bit outside my budget but I still think he was worth the push."

The second top price of $36,000 was also snapped up by a NSW stud, with Hardigreen Park, Wallabadah paying up for 23-month-old Dunlop Trumper P468 (P).

Sired by Bullamakinka Kong K276 (P) from Dunlop J053, Trumper weighed 912kg with an average daily gain of 1.26kg, P8 and rib fat of 15mm and 13mm and an EMA of 136 sq cm. He had 4.9pc IMF, a scrotal circumference of 41.5m and 87 semen morphology.

Hardigreen Park owner Moreton Rolfe said they would single sire him with a line of heifers they are about to buy from another stud. Trumper stood out to Mr Rolfe for his good temparament, easy doing ability, his strength through the front, good weight for age and scrotal circumference.

"We reckon he's one of the best bulls sold this year," he said

The Roberts family, Ridgelands, Injune picked up a line of seven bulls to average $7000.

Geoff Pedersen, Wyseby, Rolleston bought six bulls to average $8333.

The Zahl family, Balmy Hills, Springsure secured five bulls to average $5200 while Karreman Quarries, Cleveland bought four to average $7500.
