My Moree Photography Exhibition Now Open Life on the Plains is celebrated in all its expansive glory at the second My Moree Photography Exhibition, now on display in a whole-of-floor exhibition at Bank Art Museum Moree (BAMM). The exhibition is the culmination of a photography competition run on the My Moree Facebook page, in which residents were asked to demonstrate what My Moree means to them by posting photographs to the page. Organisers were blown away by the almost 600 images they received in response, almost 25% up on entries for the inaugural 2017 competition. “It has been beautiful to see the enduring pride residents have in this region”, said Council’s Acting Economic Development and Grants Manager Mrs Susannah Pearse. “Regardless of drought, flood, boom or bust, the residents of the Moree Plains are proud to call this region home and the exhibition provides a way for residents to celebrate all that they love about life on the Plains.” The exhibition features some 300 photographs on display, grouped into the categories of “People of the Plains”, “Our Country”, “Our History”, “Iconic Moree Plains” and “Up & Coming Talent”. Shortlisted entries in each category have been contacted by organisers, with the winners of each category to be announced at an invitation only event later this week at BAMM. Winners will receive the following: Grand Jury Prize - $1,000 voucher People’s Choice - $1,000 voucher Our Country - $500 voucher Our History - $500 voucher People of the Plains - $500 voucher Iconic Moree Plains - $500 voucher 2 x Up and Coming Talent Awards for entrants under the age of 18 who entered in that category - $250 voucher each. (All prize vouchers are from Harvey Norman Moree and may be used for photography equipment.) Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Manager Mrs Libby Carter explained that visitors to the exhibition will also have the chance to have their say on which photograph best reflects My Moree to them, with a people’s choice award winner to be announced at the end of the exhibition. “The judges have had an incredibly tough time deciding on the winning images for this year’s competition thanks to the incredible talent pool of local photographers and high calibre of entries. “The People’s Choice award provides a great opportunity for visitors to have their say on the image that best resonates with them, with the winner receiving a massive $1,000 voucher to Harvey Norman for photography equipment.” With a larger exhibition space this year, the My Moree team have taken the opportunity to dust off some amazing photos from the archives which are featured in a stunning rolling digital historical display. The display has been created in collaboration with the Moree and District Historical Society and the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre, who kindly provided access to their catalogue of photos, many of which have never been digitised. The exhibition is on at level one at BAMM, corner of Frome and Heber Streets until late October.
