In the coming weeks, further improvements will be made to Lithgow’s Main Street through additional, upgraded infrastructure.
Please be aware that this week, works will be commencing on the installation of new bins along the length of Main Street as well as two new timber shade structures in Cook Street Plaza.
Those who frequent Lithgow’s Main Street will be aware that some changes have already been made. All of the existing cage-style 55 litre bins will be removed and replaced with 240 litre sulo bins with stainless steel enclosures. While the bins may not be in the same location as the older cage bins, they have been located strategically to most benefit our cafes, food outlets and pubs. While the number of bins have been reduced from 20 to 14, capacity has been tripled while also reducing the costs of service. It is expected that all new bins will be in place by the end of this week.
Additional to the new bins, two large timber cantilever shade structures are scheduled for installation this week, with construction commencing on Wednesday, weather permitting. Bore holes for the footings have been dug and the existing seats removed to facilitate their installation. With summer fast approaching, it is expected that these structures will be of great benefit to the aesthetic of Cook Street Plaza and those residents and tourists using the area.
Pedestrians are urged to exhibit caution while construction works are ongoing. If there are any concerns regarding these two projects, please contact Council through a visit to the Administration Building on Mort Street, by phone on (02) 6354 9999, or email at [email protected].
