Narrabeen Lagoon trail to close temporarily

A striking new overwater boardwalk soon to be opened on the northern foreshore of Narrabeen Lagoon will not only make a major contribution to the protection of the lagoon’s fragile shoreline bio-diversity, it will also ensure a safer route for the many cyclists, joggers, walkers and others who regularly enjoy an adjacent nature trail.

Work on the Narrabeen Lagoon Trail Overwater Boardwalk has reached a critical final stage with the trail being closed for four weeks from 16 September to 11 October while Council’s contractors install sandstone supports that will allow access to the new structure.

The sandstone supports are designed especially to allow sections for native vegetation to take hold and a boardwalk handrail will be coloured to blend in with the natural environment.

Built with marine-grade hardwood and featuring a fibreglass reinforced plastic-grating upper-deck, the boardwalk will realign the trail safely away from the busy Wakehurst Parkway for a section of the lagoon foreshore.

Council is investing almost $2 million in the new boardwalk as part of our commitment to creating iconic and environmentally sustainable recreational infrastructure that meets the needs of our community – both now and into the future.
