With skateboarding to feature at the 2020 Olympic Games, Eurobodalla will host five skate-park competitions between now and the opening ceremony in Tokyo.
The Australian Skate Park League series kicks off this month with a free competition at the Batemans Bay skate park, Beach Road. There are classes for all abilities, so bring your own scooter, skateboard or BMX – additional helmets will be available for participants – and events kick off at 11am on Sunday 22 September.
Eurobodalla Council’s youth coordinator Zoe Morgan said the series presented an opportunity for enthusiasts to hone skills and progress through the national skate-park pathway.
“We’re running these events in conjunction with the YMCA and Skate Australia, with four clinics and five competitions,” Ms Morgan said, “there will also be opportunities for our young people to gain experience and practical training in skate-park event management”.
“The series runs from September to April, with events across the shire, and we’ll be running clinics before each of next year’s competitions,” Ms Morgan said.
“The series continues next year with a clinic at South Durras on Friday 17 January, 4pm to 6pm, and competition on Saturday 18 January, 11am to 4pm. Then head to Broulee on Sunday 19 January for a clinic in the morning, 9am to 11am, and competition, 11am to 4pm.
“Then pencil in clinics and competition at Narooma and Moruya for April, with dates to be confirmed nearer the time.”
