Water strategy recognised

Major improvements to water and sewerage at Guerilla Bay, Rosedale, and Bodalla – with future improvements at Potato Point and Nelligen – have seen Eurobodalla Council recognised as the most improved provider of water utilities in NSW.

The Sam Samra Award for Water Management was presented to Council’s Water and Sewer team at the LGNSW Water Conference in Albury on Tuesday 3 September. Selected by an independent panel, Eurobodalla was chosen from 89 NSW water utilities with the award recognising staff’s passion and technical expertise implementing Council’s Integrated Water-Cycle Management Strategy (IWCMS) and looking after customers across the shire.

Council’s director of infrastructure Warren Sharpe accepted the award, accompanied by divisional manager Brett Corven and project engineer Harvey Lane. Mr Sharpe said he was pleased to publicly recognise and show appreciation for his team.

“Council’s water and sewer team spent four years to produce the plans which outline major works, operational requirements and form the basis for pricing arrangements – including consideration of the impact of climate change – with a 30-year projection, “ Mr Sharpe said.

“The team have completed major technical reviews of sewerage treatment plants, sometimes requiring innovative temporary arrangements to keep treatment operational.

“We’ve been successful in working with the NSW Government to attract grant funding to reduce the cost burden to ratepayers; with our community well positioned for the future.”

Mr Sharpe said the design of the Eurobodalla Southern Storage, a 3000ML off-river facility behind Bodalla had been completed, and was one of only two projects in the running for state and federal co-funding leading into the last election.
