Council invests in Swifts Creek Transfer Station Wednesday 11 September

The Swifts Creek Transfer Station will be upgraded to improve access, useability and safety.

Identified in East Gippsland Shire Council’s Waste Strategy as requiring an upgrade, Council has awarded JW Volk Pty Ltd the contract to complete the $293,925 (excluding GST) project.

Works will include the relocation of existing recycling areas, drainage, concreting, metal railings, bin flaps and gates, site offices and containers.

Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said the upgrades will improve safety, user friendliness and ease of access.

“Relocation and installation of site huts will improve visibility for staff to enable improved oversight of waste and recycling items being disposed of, which will enhance resource recovery opportunities at the facilities,” Cr O’Connell said.

“The upgrades will also ensure the facility meets Sustainability Victoria’s Best Practice Guidelines for Waste Transfer Stations and provides a safe environment for employees and community members.”

Upgrade works are scheduled to start this year and should not result in any closure of the facility.

Swifts Creek Transfer Station is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 12pm and Sunday from 12-4pm.
