Australian soprano and musical theatre actress Marina Prior will be performing with the Victoria Welsh Choir at Ulumbarra Theatre on Sunday September 22 at 2pm to help raise funds for local performing arts grants and school programs run by the Rotary Club of Bendigo South and the Ulumbarra Foundation.

Regarded as one of musical theatre’s most formidable talents, Marina Prior will join the Victoria Welsh Choir on stage, led by Faleiry Koczkar OAM, to perform a repertoire of traditional Welsh songs and contemporary songs.

Money raised from ticket sales will be equally split between the two not for profit organisations.

The Rotary Club of Bendigo South administers grant and school programs, including Bendigo Senior Secondary College Musician of the Year. The scholarship is awarded to one student per year, which goes towards funding their tertiary education.

Funds will also go towards the Ulumbarra Foundation’s Performing Arts Power-Up Program designed to support local and regional performing arts organisations. The Bendigo South East College’s Academy of Creative Arts (ACA) was a successful recipient earlier this year.

The biennial concert was first held in 2015 and 2017 and has so far raised $25,000 for performing arts. This latest concert will be a return visit for Marina Prior, who enjoyed a sold out event when she first came to Bendigo in 2015 to perform with the Victoria Welsh Choir. Money raised funded equipment for the newly-opened Ulumbarra Theatre after the Rotary Club of Bendigo South initiated a partnership with the Ulumbarra Foundation.

Ulumbarra Foundation Chair Gordon McKern said it was great to see the community embracing this event once again in 2019.

“Ticket sales continue to soar for the third biennial concert fundraiser,” Mr McKern said.
