The City of Ballarat CEO’s report for August highlights operational achievements and challenges facing the organisation over the past month.

Key achievements, projects and events delivered:

Carols by Candlelight – the City of Ballarat facilitated successful discussions between the old and new event operators once it became clear the Kardinia Church was unable to continue operating the event

Start Up Ballarat meet ups – Ballarat digital games developers had their third Start Up meet up in August. To demonstrate our support for this growing industry, Start Up Ballarat will facilitate a dedicated business development workshop specifically for games development studios.

Ballarat Research Hub at Eureka – Ballarat Research Hub at Eureka has been established as a one-stop shop for heritage researchers.

Cycling Action Plan Ballarat East Trail and Wendouree upgrades completed – Works have been completed at LT Fraser Reserve to connect the existing Canadian Creek Trail and Specimen Vale Trail, a pedestrian crossing was installed in Barkley Street as part of the Ballarat Safer Cycling Connections Project and work has been completed on a new shared path along Gillies Street at the Wendouree Recreation Reserve.

Waste Collection Calendar – This has been improved this year with more information and a very detailed map and calendar and has received terrific feedback in better engaging residents with their entire waste management service.

Ongoing community consultation:

Latrobe Saleyards Precinct Urban Renewal Plan – Phase two of community consultation started in July

Bakery Hill and Bridge Mall Urban Renewal Project – Stage two of the community engagement process has been completed, and officers are now working on a draft Urban Renewal Plan which will be available for public comment.

Dowling Forest Precinct Planning Controls Review – The draft review was available for public comment in July and August. The review’s purpose is to identify and understand the issues associated with the current town planning controls and to explore possible planning scheme solutions.
