The search is on for the region’s budding film stars, with Western Downs Regional Council on the hunt for youngsters to showcase rural life to the nation.
Council will soon host children’s television show ‘Totally Wild’, which will film a series of educational stories focusing on Chinchilla and its vibrant community facilities such as the $6 million Chinchilla Botanic Parkland.
Features to explore at the new Parkland include a life-size exhibit of a prehistoric ‘Diprotodon’ which is a giant wombat-like marsupial which used to inhabit the area.
Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Council was calling for last-minute video entries assisting the production crew to uncover our local talent.
“The Western Downs region is home to some incredibly talented, energetic young people, all of whom have an exciting story to tell about our region,” Cr Maguire said.
“We’re calling on the region’s youngsters aged 10 – 15 to put their best face forward by submitting a short video detailing why they’d love to be featured on Totally Wild.
“The film crew will select from these entries to feature in a series of Totally Wild segments highlighting the local area, with filming set to commence in early October.”
Chinchilla State Primary School Principal Chris Gilbert said the initiative would be a great opportunity to showcase the area through the eyes of our young people.
“Our kids are the lifeblood of the community and it’s important to encourage them to be proud of their hometown and community lifestyle,” Mr Gilbert said.
“This is a fantastic platform for local kids to share their unique area with kids right across Australia, while also getting to be a part of a real television film set.”
To apply to be a part of filming, teens and tweens are required to film short video detailing why they’d love to be involved.
The video should be between 30 seconds and one minute long and can be filmed on a smartphone. They should include the entrant’s name and phone number and be emailed to [email protected].
Talent will be chosen by the agency/production crew and successful applicants advised prior to filming. Parental consent will be confirmed by the film crew prior to any filming taking place.
Entries close on Friday 20 September.
