2019 My Moree Photography Competition Winners Announced

Last Friday night at BAMM, an excited crowd of finalists, together with their friends and family, gathered for the much anticipated announcement of the winners of the 2019 My Moree Photography Competition, with the Grand Jury Prize awarded to Melissa Carrigan for her stunning sunset harvest image.

State member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall, Minister for Agriculture and Western NSW, and Moree Plains Shire Council Deputy Mayor Greg Smith were on hand to congratulate the finalists and present the below winners with their prizes:

With almost 600 entries posted on the My Moree Facebook page, the 2019 My Moree Photography Competition was hotly contested.

Council’s Acting Economic Development and Grants Manager Mrs Susannah Pearse commented, “Judges were overwhelmed by the volume and calibre of this year’s entries”.

“There was such a fantastic field of entries across all of the categories; it far exceeded expectations.

“The My Moree team and Council would like to thank every single person that submitted an entry into the competition and made it the beautiful celebration of life on the Plains that it is.”

Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Manager Libby Carter congratulated the winners and noted that the overall display demonstrated such diversity of what My Moree means to the community.

“The exhibition features some 300 photographs on display, grouped into the categories of “People of the Plains”, “Our Country”, “Our History”, “Iconic Moree Plains” and “Up & Coming Talent”.

Mrs Carter noted that every single entry into the new “Up & Coming Talent” category for photographers under 18 were on display in the exhibition, showcasing the promising talent of the youth in the Shire.

“Make sure you come down to BAMM to see if your picture is on display and in the running for the People’s Choice, which can be voted for up until the close of the exhibition on 26 October 2019.

Mrs Carter remarked how rewarding it is to work on the competition, saying how wonderful it has been to  see the passion for Moree Plains the images evoke for the online My Moree community.

“We have over 8,000 followers now across Australia and beyond – it’s so pleasing to see how well received and supported our community is,” said Mrs Carter.

Both Mr Marshall and Deputy Mayor Greg Smith were impressed with the exhibition and thanked BAMM for providing their wonderful facility to host the exhibition.

A highlight for attendees on the night was the stunning 10 minute digital historical display developed in collaboration with the Moree Historical Society and Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre.

“Many of the images on display would have never been seen by the general public before and the exhibition provided a great excuse to dust off the archives and showcase the region’s remarkable history”, said Mrs Pearse.

The exhibition is open from 10am-5pm Monday to Friday and 10am-1pm Saturdays at BAMM, corner Frome and Heber Streets, Moree. Entry to BAMM is free and the exhibition will remain open until 26 October 2019.
