Applications are now open to nominate someone deserving for Maroondah City Council’s

Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Rob Steane, said the annual awards provided an important platform to recognise individuals and groups for their significant contributions to the local community.

“It’s that time of year again when we ask residents to nominate someone they feel makes our community a better place, and who does so humbly and without seeking praise or recognition,” Cr Steane said.

“Maroondah is a vibrant and caring community, and we know this is in no small part due to the exceptional efforts made by people who seek to improve the lives of others. These awards help to ensure that those efforts are recognised and celebrated,” he said.

The three categories in which the public can nominate include: Maroondah Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.

Cr Steane said the awards recognised great achievements during the past year, or contribution to the local community over a number of years.

“Previous award recipients have come from all walks of life and are those who are dedicated to serving the local community.

“You may know someone who has made an outstanding contribution in your sporting club, at your school or university, in business or in a voluntary capacity. What better way to highlight their wonderful efforts than by nominating them for Citizen of the Year or Young Citizen of the Year and ensure that we all hear about their achievements,” he said.

Nominations for Community Event of the Year recognise events of community significance that have taken place in Maroondah and which reflect the importance of strong community values and ties.

“The awards are a wonderful way that the community can bring deserving people and groups to Council’s attention, so that as a community we can commend their contribution and inspire others by their example,” Cr Steane added.

All nominees, and the person who nominated them, will be invited via letter in December 2019 to attend the awards ceremony.
