Harristown residents and visitors can look forward to enjoying improved recreation facilities following Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) approval of the Coronation Park masterplan.
The proposed upgrades include additional tree planting, improved pathways and car parking, new lighting and shelters, the renewal of ageing playground equipment, a kick-about area and a new toilet block.
TRC Parks and Recreation Portfolio Leader, Cr Joe Ramia said the park was identified for an upgrade to meet the population growth of the area around Harristown.
“The master plan sets out the vision for Coronation Park for the next 10 to 20 years and makes recommendations for development work when budgets are made available,” Cr Ramia said.
“The master plan aspires to celebrate the natural beauty of the current space while creating an authentic and distinctive park.
“One of the major recommendations of the masterplan is the construction of a new toilet block that will be accessible for people with a disability.
“Throughout the park, new lighting will allow for night time use of key activity areas and new shelters with barbecues will add to the recreational use of the park.
“The plan for the upgraded playground equipment includes new play mounds that have slides and climbing elements, as well as a flying fox and triple swing set.
“There will be a new kickabout area to activate the space and the dog off-leash area will be retained and include some minor improvements.
“Council will also be looking to maximise the space for car parking to allow visitors to better access the park.
“The final masterplan was compiled following several consultation opportunities earlier this year where residents had their say on future improvements to the park.
“The masterplan is an aspirational plan that will guide future capital projects and upgrades for the area.
“It is important to note that any future upgrade works will be dependent on funding and Council priorities.
“Council looks forward to working with the local community as this project develops.”
