news, local-news,

A recent initiative between Bouila Police, Boulia Community Support Services and Boulia Shire Council has seen the introduction of Thursday afternoon junior sports. The Boulia community is extremely fortunate to have a multipurpose sports centre, right on their doorstep. Officer in Charge of Boulia station, Sergeant Michael Hobden identified that there were no regular structured activities for children to do after school. This new program is serving as the perfect place for children to play sports such as soccer, basketball, badminton and tennis in a safe fun environment. The children have a wonderful time participating in team sports, which provide them with many skills and benefits. Attendance has been between 20-25 children per week, which is roughly half the school's enrollment. The children are provided with a free afternoon tea, which is organised by Boulia Community Support Services. Sgt Hobden and Jan Norton from Boulia Community Support Services recently received a thank you card from the children at Boulia State School, which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. Sgt Hobden thanked the Boulia Community Support Services and Boulia Shire Council for their ongoing support for the program. Make sure you head on down to the Boulia Sports and Aquatic Centre each Thursday afternoon from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and join in the fun.
