The Old Coast Road Foreshore Path from Christina Street to Ridley Place, Australind is now complete, with minor landscaping works taking place in the coming weeks.
Harvey Shire Chief Executive Officer Annie Riordan said the pathway was a great asset for the Shire as it allowed all ages and abilities the opportunity to utilise the pathway.
She said before the pathway was built people with mobility issues, bikes, wheelchairs and scooters could not access this area of the foreshore, as it was a bush track.
She said significant consultation was done regarding the foreshore section of the pathway, which took into consideration the community’s feedback before construction started.
“Council approved the project design and engaged residents to walk the path alignment along with Shire staff and the contractors, to assist and advise of any concerns,” Ms Riordan said.
“We have organised fencing along the reserve to prevent people driving onto the foreshore area and to protect the pathway.
“The pathway was constructed in consultation with our neighbouring local governments to ensure a continuous cycle route was created between Local Government Authorities as part of the Greater Bunbury Bicycle Master Plan.”
Funding for the project, along with the Shire’s contribution, was obtained from the South West Development Commission, Department of Transport and State government.
