Ballarat (City) 19 Sep 2019

Wallaby hopefuls will take to the field at Ballarat’s Mars Stadium this weekend in round four of the National Rugby Championship.

The free event will see Melbourne Rising reignite its rivalry with Queensland Country on Sunday 22 September from 1pm.

A curtain-raiser between Melbourne Rebels u/19s and Victorian Country Barbarians will kick off at 10.30am.

The National Rugby Championship is the launch pad for Australian players looking to represent the national team.

It comes as rugby fever grips the globe ahead of the start of the Rugby World Cup this Friday night.

The City of Ballarat is working with officials from the Melbourne Rebels to extend existing arrangements into a formal partnership with the aim of securing a number of events for Ballarat.

This includes the possibility of Mars Stadium hosting a Super Rugby competition match next season, providing the region’s rugby union fans with a chance to see their idols in action right here in Ballarat.

In February this year, the Rebels took on the Queensland Reds in a practice match at Mars Stadium.
