Councillor Dagg to continue as Deputy Mayor

  Congratulations to Councillor Melanie Dagg, who was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor of Cessnock City Council for her second term.  

Council’s Interim General Manager Robert Maginnity was the returning officer for the election and declared Councillor Dagg the successful candidate during Wednesday’s council meeting.  

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent congratulated Councillor Dagg.  

“During Cr Dagg’s first term as Deputy Mayor she demonstrated commitment to the community and has done an outstanding job at representing Council. Cr Dagg is a wonderful and passionate advocate for our community and I know she will continue this hard work during her second term. It was clear Cr Dagg has done an exceptional job receiving unanimous support from her fellow Councillors.”  

Cr Dagg grew up in Cessnock, attending West Cessnock Public School, Mount View High School and later St Marys in Maitland and is currently studying law by correspondence. Melanie now lives in Branxton with her husband Josh and their two gorgeous girls Amelia and Eliza.    Cr Dagg serves as a member of the Cultural Facilities Committee, Hunter Water Consultative Committee, the Association of Mining and Energy Related Councils.  

Cr Dagg thanked the Councillors for their support after standing unopposed for the position.  

“I have genuinely enjoyed the position and am thankful for the support of my colleagues. I will continue to work hard as Deputy Mayor for the residents of this special local government area, which I care so much about. I’m committed to listening to our community and fighting to ensure their voice is heard at a local, state and federal level.”
