Despite the recent wet weather, Liverpool residents face a summer of high bushfire danger after a warm, dry winter and spring.

The message from Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller is simple: “Get Prepared.”

“We are a city surrounded by bushland. We must be ready for fire threats,” she said.

“No one should forget that in April only last year people and property in our city were closely threatened by bushfire. More than 2400 hectares of bushland burnt in Casula and Holsworthy.”

Mayor Waller said Get Prepared, a free, easy-to-use app created by the Red Cross and IAG, was a great way for anyone in a fire-prone area to get started on a bushfire management plan.

Get Prepared helps users to prepare for any type of emergency by:

Identifying support people during a disaster;Creating a to-do list that will help to keep loved ones safe; andDeveloping an action plan to protect the things that matter.

Signing up to Get Prepared takes only a few minutes. The app can be downloaded for Apple and Android devices at www.redcross.org.au/prepare.

Liverpool City Council’s bushfire danger period was declared a month earlier than usual at the beginning of September. Hotter than average, dry weather is forecast.
