New council policy adopted

Council has adopted a new policy – 170 - Chief Executive Officer, Council and Staff Interaction. The policy defines how councillors and council staff will interact and how their responsibilities are separated.

The policy assists councillors and council staff in respecting the roles and responsibilities of others in the organisation, whilst maintaining transparency and good governance.

Responsive Grants Program

An amount of $921 in responsive grants will go to:

Lockington Preschool Advisory Committee – to cover the cost of Splash n Learn instructors to run a four week learn to swim program.

Toolleen Axedale Road widening project

Council has deferred scheduled works to widen Toolleen Axedale Road, however has approved for the project to be included in next year’s Capital Works Budget.

Tree removal and other barriers have increased the total project’s costs including council contribution.

Council will apply for Fixing Country Roads funding in the next financial year to ensure the project can be funded in a more cost effective manner.

The original council funds set aside for the project will be returned to the unallocated asset renewal reserve.

Years of service recognised

Council has acknowledged 32 staff members who have completed a number of years of service, clocking up significant milestones, totalling 560 years.

Of the staff, one has given 45 years, two have given 30 years, four have given 25 years, four have given 20 years, 13 have given 15 years and eight have given 10 years.

The employees will be officially acknowledged at a special reception in October. More than 90 per cent of council’s staff live locally.

Kindergartens joining schools

Council has agreed to put forward a motion at the October Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) state council meeting for the Department of Education and Training to clarify their position on locating kindergartens on school sites.

Whilst the department favours new schools to include kindergarten facilities, it is unclear if they will support existing schools and kindergartens to join where the need exists. Council is seeking to clarify what role local government will have in this process to ensure necessary planning and preparation can take place.
