Beatles tribute band to headline Bust the Dust Festival
Bland Shire Council 24 Sep 2019

An internationally acclaimed The Beatles tribute band will headline Bland Shire’s Bust the Dust festival in West Wyalong later this month.

The “Beatels” will play all of the hits live in West Wyalong’s Main Street on Saturday 29 June as the Bland Shire community comes together for a day of family fun which will also feature popular local band Three Pistol Midnight, dodgem cars and amusement rides, free fairy floss and popcorn from Neat’s Party Hire, the inaugural Evolution Mining Golden Colour Rush, a free Lions Club barbecue, free cakes and slices from St Mary’s School P&F and spectacular fireworks display that can be viewed from historic Thom’s corner.

Featuring Bruce Coble as "John", Richard Bevins as "Paul", Marcus Phelan as "George" and Neil Rankin as "Ringo", The Beatels tribute band will hit the stage at 5pm for an amazing live show including vintage instruments, authentic "Beatles" costumes and the very best of the band’s iconic music.

The Bust the Dust event is co-ordinated by Bland Shire Council utilising Drought Communities funding from the Federal Government and additional financial support from Evolution Mining and the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network.

The event kicks-off at 2pm with live music from Three Pistol Midnight and the start of the Evolution Mining Golden Colour Rush.

The Colour Rush is a non-timed five kilometre fun run which includes a range of obstacles between West Wyalong’s Crooked Mile Main Street and the The Wetlands as well as a number of colour stations where participants are peppered with coloured powder.

Among the participants will be blind motivational speaker and special guest MC for the event Ben Pettingill. Mr Pettingill is the only legally blind person in the world to have competed in a Spartan obstacle course race untethered.

Revellers are encouraged to gather at Thom’s Corner from 2pm for the start of the colour run and to enjoy the tunes of Three Pistol Midnight before being invited to join the fun and throw coloured powder at the participants.

Dodgem cars, a giant fibreglass slide and inflatable obstacle course will be in operation from 3pm while West Wyalong Lions Club will cook up a free barbecue, St Mary’s School P&F will provide free cakes and slices and Neat’s Party Hire will hand out serves of popcorn and fairy floss.

The Beatels will perform until approximately 7pm before a fireworks display from Griff’s Fireworks will signal a spectacular end to the festivities.

Bust the Dust is an initiative of Bland Shire Council using drought funding from the Federal Government.

“When Council received funding under the Drought Communities program late last year, the Councillors were keen to allocate a small percentage of the funds towards a community event to bring people together for some free food and entertainment,” Bland Shire Council General Manager, Ray Smith said.

“Bust the Dust is an opportunity for people of all ages and interests to gather in West Wyalong’s Main Street to catch up with friends and family and enjoy an afternoon and evening of entertainment unlike anything we have ever seen before.”
