Eco Surf Fest – an opportunity to celebrate and share our love of the Coffs Coast with a hands-on, family-fun market-style day of surfing, music, food, sustainable art and repair and reuse workshops – is happening at Woolgoolga Beach Reserve on Saturday, October 19.

“Coffs Harbour is the most beautiful place to live and it’s this appreciation of its natural beauty that unites us all.  Whether it’s walking the beach, surfing the waves, admiring the view, swimming, paddling or just loving the ocean vibe – and that’s what we’re going to be celebrating with the Coffs Coast’s first ever Eco Surf Fest,” said Andrew Davies, Council’s Sustainable Living and Community Programs Coordinator.

“The ocean and our living coast give us so much and the eco surf fest is all about celebrating and sharing all the things that we can give back in return. So come along! Whether that’s on a wave, or to listen to solar-powered music, for brunch or brekkie, to learn how to repair your favourite wettie or create art from your old board, immerse yourself in Gumbaynggirr Surf Culture or pick up beach safety tips from our Lifeguards or do your bit for the ocean in the Seaside Scavenge. We live here because we love it. Share the happiness with friends and family at the Eco Surf Fest.”

Eco Surf Fest is going to turn Woolgoolga Beach Reserve into a community, family-friendly celebration of sustainability and the surf from 9am-2pm on Saturday, October 19. Entry is FREE.

Coffs Coast Surf Riders Foundation will be running a Surf Comp – of course! – from 9am. The day will feature loads of free demos and workshops, which explore the sustainable side of surf culture. How about making eco surf wax that gives you grip without the gripe of chemicals in the ocean?

Got an old board just hanging around? Get creative with local surf and skate art legend Jimmy Wags and turn it into a canvas for your own colourful, happy and wonderful art work. Or express your love of the ocean in a community art mural inspired by the sea that will be created for, and on, the day.

Swap any beach trash you find for good quality, pre-loved clothing, books, toys and more while helping stop plastic harming the ocean and its inhabitants in the always popular Seaside Scavenge. You can drop in your pre-loved goodies at local libraries ahead of the Fest.

And while you’re feasting on the vibe, you can also feast on some amazing, mouth-watering local food from a variety of food stalls and vans.

“It’s been an amazing experience already. We’ve had massive support from the Woopi business community, local surfers, lifesaving and board riding clubs from up and down the coast, the incredibly passionate Eco Groms, Dolphin Marine Conservation Park and local schools,” added Andrew.

“We live on the coast for a reason. Let’s come together and share our love of the ocean and the connection it creates at Eco Surf Fest.”
