Pop-up library at Bowen Waterpark

Whitsunday Regional Council is taking its popular library resources on the road via a new “pop-up library” trailer to increase engagement with the community.
In the absence of dedicated mobile library facilities, Council’s pop-up library will deliver unprecedented access to a variety of traditional and digital activities.
The pop-up library will be launched at a community event at the Bowen Waterpark on Friday from 10am til noon.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said he welcomed the community to check out the new pop-up library especially the popular Spring Storytime for kids 5 and under at the Bowen Foreshore Park from 10.30am this Friday.
“Council was awarded $27,828 in funding from the State Library of Queensland to establish a pop-up library within the Whitsunday region.
“This grant allowed us to re-purpose a promotional trailer into a pop-up library and provide an innovative way to take our traditional and digital library facilities to more rural areas,” he said.
“The pop-up trailer will provide more people in our community with access to selected library print, audio visual and digital resources.
“It will give adults and children in our more remote areas access to explore fun robotics programs and the popular First Five Forever activities,” Mayor Willcox said.
“The pop-up library will visit shopping centres, local schools, day care centres, parks and community events and festivals.
“I am excited that this mobile initiative gives Council the opportunity to create pop-up meeting events that act as safe hubs for leisure, learning and creativity.”
