Construction will soon commence on a sporting and community pavilion as stage 1 of the Comely Banks Reserve project, Bridge Road Officer.
The pavilion will service the community, as well as future rugby league, cricket and lawn bowls sports clubs.
The pavilion will feature unisex change room facilities, unisex umpires change facilities, fully accessible exterior/interior amenities, kiosk /canteen facilities, integrated social space and external covered spectator areas.
The pavilion is the first stage of the planned development of the overall Comely Banks community and sports reserve.
The reserve and sporting grounds will be established in line with a joint master plan developed by the Department of Education and Cardinia Shire Council.
The reserve is planned with the area’s future growth in mind, and will feature four rectangular pitches (incorporating two sports ovals), cricket practice nets, two bowling greens, playground area and car parking facilities. It will also integrate the school, providing a hub for community activities, sport and participation.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Graeme Moore said the project will deliver an important new community and sporting facility to meet the needs of local residents into the future.
“Comely Banks Pavilion and Recreation Reserve will provide an exciting home for new and existing sports, improving the capacity to manage local demands on sporting facilities,” he said.
The project is jointly funded by Cardinia Shire Council and the Victorian Government. Pavilion construction is expected to commence from late next month, with works on the reserve and sporting areas to commence in the 2020-21 financial year.
