Maroondah City Council has extended its congratulations to one of its long-serving volunteers, community stalwart Brian Morgan.
“Council acknowledges the enormous contribution Brian Morgan has made as a committee member of the Ringwood Athletics Centre Special Committee of Council,” said Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Rob Steane.
“It is important that Council recognises our volunteers like Brian, as without these people many activities and services in our community would not be able to happen,” he said.
Brian was presented with a Letter Under Seal at a meeting of the Council on Monday 16 September 2019 in recognition of his 44 years’ contribution as a volunteer to Maroondah City Council and the community.
In 1976, Brian founded the Ringwood Professional Athletics Club and later established the Ringwood Gift Carnival, which grew to become a significant feature of the Victorian Athletics Calendar and celebrated its 40th carnival milestone this year.
“At 90 years young, Brian Morgan exemplifies what it means to be a volunteer. Brian’s continued commitment working in a voluntary capacity in varying roles has contributed immeasurably to the strong and wonderful community volunteer base we have here in Maroondah,” Cr Steane said.
Brian served as a lifetime President of the Ringwood Professional Athletic Club and represented its members and the interests of aspiring junior athletes on the AC Robertson Field and Proclamation Park Committees of Management, now known as the Ringwood Athletics Centre Special Committee of Council.
He also holds the honour of being the inaugural Life Member of the North Ringwood Football Club, of which he served as president for seven years.
“Council extends its gratitude to Brian Morgan for his exemplary contribution as a citizen of Maroondah and extends its best wishes to him upon his retirement from the Ringwood Athletics Centre Special Committee of Council,” Cr Steane added.
