A number of events and activities will be held in Canterbury-Bankstown next month (October), during Mental Health Month.
Mayor Khal Asfour said this year’s theme is Share the Journey.
“Our activities will not only look at strengthening the ways an individual can connect, but also the things we can all do to create communities where people feel safer and more connected when things aren’t going well,” he said.
“There is no shame in reaching out and tackling problems with the help of our friends or family.
“One of the best ways to deal with the tough times is to draw on the support of our loved ones, who can help us deal with what is happening and help us build resilience.”
Some of the activities Council will be hosting to raise awareness of mental health include:
Tuesday 1 October (10am-2pm) - Bankstown Wellness Festival at Paul Keating Park;Friday 4 October (noon-4pm) - Artistic Mindfulness workshop at Bankstown Arts Centre;Thursday 17 October (9.30am-12.30pm) - Vietnamese Living Library at Bankstown Arts Centre;Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in October - Mental Health Month drop-in activities at Belmore Youth Recourse Centre;Every Wednesday for six weeks, starting 16 October - free yoga classes at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre; 16 and 17 October - understanding mental health two-day course at Bryan Brown Theatre and Function Centre; andMonday 28 October (10am-2.30pm) - suicide prevention workshop The Carrington Centre.For more information on Mental Health Month activities, visit cb.city/whatson
