As part of the 2019 World Invitational Town Crier Tournament, town criers will be converging on the Echuca Regional Library to participate in the Living Books program on Saturday, 12 October.
Library Services Manager, Jenny Mustey said this unique experience invites members of the public to book a 30 minute, one on one conversation, with talented Australian and international town criers.
“With 11 Australian and 10 international representatives from Canada, UK, USA and New Zealand, there will be many fascinating life experiences to share,” Mrs Mustey said.
Traditionally town criers, or bellmen, dressed in elaborate outfits, rang their bell loudly and announced the news in public spaces.
The event runs from 12 to 2pm and to book your exclusive 30 minute living book session, talk to the Echuca Library staff or call 5481 2400.
As part of the week long tournament, the group will visit Tongala, Kyabram, Mathoura, Lockington and Rochester, culminating in a variety concert performed by the town criers at Rich River Golf Club. Tickets are available from the club’s reception and are $40 per person including a two course meal.
