Beach Emergency Number signs installed on Floreat and City Beaches

The Town of Cambridge has installed Beach Emergency Numbers (BEN) signs on Floreat and City Beaches in time for the warmer weather and increasing crowds this spring.
The Beach Emergency Numbers (BEN) system is a coding system, designed to improve emergency response times by installing signs with unique numbers at beach access points.
The signs provide specific location information, vital when emergency services are deployed in the event of any beach emergency incident or accident in or out of the water.
Although an acronym, the name of 'BEN' is in honour of a shark incident at Falcon in 2016 that claimed the life of Ben Gerring.
Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon said that the Town received a grant from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development to supply and install the 60 signs which will be completed by November this year.
"The signs will prove most helpful for interstate and overseas visitors to our wonderful beaches as they may not be that familiar with the beach names or the surrounding road names should they need to call for emergency help."
