Regenerative Communities Road Trip to build community resilience

Published on 25 September 2019

Council is about to embark on its Regenerative Communities Road Trip to highlight the power residents have within their own communities to take control of their local economies and overcome challenges.

The Regenerative Communities Road Trip is based around five free events, featuring workshops, community dinners and activities between Thursday 3 October and Sunday 6 October.

Council is bringing experts to the region who have real hands-on experience tapping into the amazing resource residents have within their own communities to find innovative solutions to challenges they face.

Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equality Helen Healy said residents will be shown how everyday people across regional and rural Australia have found creative approaches to meet challenges in their communities by working together, and how this can be replicated in the Mallee.

“We sometimes underestimate the untapped resource we have within our own communities – our people,” Cr Healy said.

“By harnessing the power within our communities residents can tackle almost any challenge that comes their way.

“The experts we’re bringing to our communities as part of the Regenerative Communities Road Trip will provide innovative ideas, inspiring stories and practical tools to help our residents boost their local economies.”

Events will be held at the following locations and dates:

Thursday 3 October Unbreakable Millewa Lake Cullulleraine

Friday 4 October Regenerative Communities Forum Australia Inland Botanic Gardens

Friday 4 October Comedy Night Nangiloc Tavern

Saturday 5 October Regenerative Communities Tent Ouyen Lake

Sunday 6 October Sunday Tucker Murrayville Rec Reserve

Topics will include innovative farming models and food systems, sustainable volunteering, economic migration, marketing the rural lifestyle and community resilience.

The Regenerative Communities Road Trip is funded by the Victorian Government Department of Health and Human Services.
