Under the current Terms of Reference of the Greater Dandenong Sustainability Advisory Committee, three positions on the Sustainability Advisory Committee will become vacated on Wednesday 6 November 2019, and the City of Greater Dandenong is now seeking expressions of interest membership on the Committee to fill these vacancies.
The Greater Dandenong Sustainability Advisory Committee is being established to assist Council in the implementation of the Greater Dandenong Sustainability Strategy 2016-30. The efforts of this committee will contribute to the Greater Dandenong becoming one of the most sustainable cities in Australia by 2030.
What is the Committee expected to do? Champion, advocate and promote sustainability throughout the City of Greater Dandenong, as well as the sustainability achievements of Council and the broader community. Provide Council with input, guidance and support on sustainability and environmental matters relevant to the local community within the City of Greater Dandenong. Provide Council with input, guidance and support on the implementation of the key community priorities and community objectives in the 2016-30 Greater Dandenong Sustainability Strategy; and Provide Council with input, guidance and support in respect to communication, engagement and consultation by Council with the local community on relevant sustainability matters. Why is the Committee being established?The City of Greater Dandenong formerly adopted the Greater Dandenong 2016-30 Sustainability Strategy at the Council Meeting on 27 June 2016. The Strategy establishes a clear vision for the City of Greater Dandenong.

The Committee has been established as a response to the recommendations identified in a report endorsed by Council on 15 December 2015 and as a key community priority identified in the Greater Dandenong Sustainability Strategy 2016-2030: Towards an Environmentally Sustainable City (endorsed by Council on 27 June 2016).
Who are the members?The Committee will consist of up to eleven members, excluding Council representation.
Members of the Committee include:
Up to two Councillor representatives Up to three Council Officers Up to six representatives from government, academic, business and/or community sectors within a role and/or interest in sustainabilityMembers are appointed by a selection panel based on the selection criteria outlined in the Terms of Reference.
How will the Committee operate? The Committee will meet five (5) times per year for up to 2 hours per meeting. A schedule of meetings will be developed and agreed to annually. Under special circumstances a meeting may be cancelled or re-scheduled. The Committee’s agenda shall be reflective of key priorities and objectives identified in the Greater Dandenong 2016-30 Sustainability Strategy. The Committee members are appointed for two years.
